Inner Circle Spanish Pest Guide

Introducing a growers guide to basic pests, in Spanish

Print page

Greenhouses and nurseries are culturally diverse and English may not be everyone’s first language. It is incredibly important that everyone who is part of a greenhouse or nursery operation understands technical information about pests. However, it can be difficult for native English speakers to communicate the information effectively to members of their workforce who are primarily native Spanish speakers.

While there are bilingual and bicultural staff in place in many nurseries and greenhouses, there are often varying levels of literacy among workers. At the same time, it is imperative that the entire workforce has the knowledge and ability to quickly identify and treat pests to guarantee the production of healthy, beautiful plants. That is exactly why Envu developed a Spanish Pest Identification Guide specifically for Spanish speakers.

“Greenhouses and nurseries are unique in a way that is wonderfully multicultural, but sometimes effective communication between laborers and growers needs a little push,” said John Wendorf, customer marketing manager for Envu Ornamentals. “Our new Spanish Pest Identification Guide can help bridge communication gaps between growers and laborers so that everyone knows how to identify pests and use our products properly and safely.”

This user-friendly guide is easy to follow and includes numerous pictures to help Spanish speakers not only identify pests, but also learn which Envu solutions to use to address them. This includes products like Marengo® herbicide, Broadform® fungicide, Altus® insecticide, Kontos® insecticide and Savate® insecticide. The guide also includes information about what personal protective equipment (PPE) should be worn while making a pesticide application.

“At Envu, we want to continue expanding diversity and inclusion and bringing people together. Our new Spanish Pest Identification Guide does just that, thanks to an idea from Customer Marketing Specialist Michelle Osuna,” said Wendorf. “We are proud to lead the industry in offering this kind of support to our greenhouse and nursery customers, especially during times like these.”

Osuna added, “I’m excited about the Spanish Pest Identification Guide because it is so important to provide today’s workforce with the knowledge to do their jobs successfully and safely. We hope other businesses will see this guide and begin to offer more support to the Spanish-speaking laborers, who play a huge role in the success of the ornamentals market.”
